Dr. Wierzchowski provides in person (in office), virtual, and in-home psychotherapeutic services for individuals, couples, and families. Regardless of the type of service and the modality, Dr. Wierzchowski provides a supportive space where you and/or your family member can express their feelings and perspectives openly.

In Office Therapy

Just like it sounds, this is the traditional format for psychotherapy, couch and all.

Virtual

The Covid-19 pandemic normalized multiple services to be provided online. Dr. Wierzchowski is able to offer virtual services and maintain efficacy in treating various conditions.

In Home Services

Throughout Dr. Wierzchowski’s clinical training and her time in Los Angeles, she has provided in-vivo (actual environment) services to individuals and families. In-home counseling services provide mental health support and therapy in a client’s home environment, which can offer convenience, accessibility, a personalized environment, family involvement, and flexibility. For individuals who are chronically ill, this can provide ease and comfort. These services can address a range of issues, including depression, anxiety, relationship problems, and behavioral challenges in children, adolescents, and adults.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

Dr. Wierzchowski is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). EMDR is a psychotherapeutic approach used to help clients process traumatic memories, leading to decreased distress and improved emotional well-being. It involves a structured eight-phase process that helps clients process and integrate and desensitize distressing To learn more about EMDR, visit the EMDR International Association (EMDRIA) website at emdria.org.

Prolonged Exposure (PE)

Exposure is an intervention strategy commonly used to help individuals confront fears. Generally, individuals want to avoid situations that cause increased anxiety, distress, or fear, however, the best way to get over a traumatic experience is to work through it, and this involved gradual exposure. Prolonged exposure is a specific type of cognitive behavioral therapy that teaches individuals to gradually approach trauma-related memories, feelings and situations. By facing what has been avoided, a person can decrease symptoms of PTSD by actively learning that the trauma-related memories and cues are not dangerous and do not need to be avoided.

Families

Family therapy, is a therapeutic approach that involves working with families to improve communication, resolve conflicts, and strengthen relationships. This includes the whole family or at times dyads such as siblings, one parent and child. The client is viewed as the family (the unit) ad generally focuses on family dynamics, blending of families, common goals, diffusing discord or resentment, repairing strained dynamics, strengthening relationships, problem solving, and improved communication.

Couples

Couples therapy is a type of psychotherapy aimed at helping partners improve their relationship and resolve conflicts. Dr. Wierzchowski has worked with many couples especially those with complex medical issues where one partner has to assume the role of caregiver, whether it be temporary or permanent. The focus is on relationship dynamics, improving communication, rebuilding trust, or addressing issues like infidelity or financial stress. Couples learn effective communication skills, problem-solving techniques, and strategies for managing conflicts in a healthy, constructive manner. There is also a focus on enhancing emotional intimacy, understanding, and empathy between partners.
